Frequently Asked Questions

Adding a new family member comes with a lot of questions, as it should! So we've gathered up some important information here on the FAQ page. Hope this helps you in answering questions and building trust with us as breeders. We are always happy to answer any additional questions and love chatting about our dogs and breeding program.

Our breeding program is founded on the principles of Quality, Honesty, and Care.

I noticed you're breeding the same girl again within a year, is this okay?

We base our breeding decisions on the latest scientific facts, not just what folks argue about on the internet. We frequently speak with other experienced breeders as well as our vet, to ensure we are always doing the best we can for our dogs!

Current Scientific Consensus is that breeding back-to-back is often preferred. It reduces the risk of Pyometra a sometimes deadly infection. It is better for the dogs fertility and reduces stress on the reproductive system.

A heat may be skipped if the mama needs a break or has not recovered fully from the last litter. We have our mamas vet checked after every litter!

We also retire early, each of our dogs will only produce a maximum of 4 litters and only if she enjoys being a mama.

Our dogs wellbeing and happiness is always our top priority.

If I reserve a dog, can I change my mind?

Absolutely! This is one of the reasons we do not accept deposits until the puppies are born.

You may find a puppy from another amazing breeder and fall in love with it. You may have a change of heart and just aren't ready for a puppy yet.

There are many reasons why someone would change their mind... We want to make sure that each puppy goes to a family that is excited and ready for their new addition.

We want the best for our puppies and for you. It's not like buying a sweater and we understand that!

A lot of people say "adopt don't shop" why is that, is dog breeding bad?

We are all for rescuing dogs & we are also for Ethical Breeding!!!

What many people don't realize is that an alarmingly high number of recuse dogs are brought into Canada from the US, Mexico, Central America, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Thailand, Korea and China.

It's wonderful to be finding homes for all these dogs, but it goes to show that there are not many dogs being surrendered locally.

I believe that people are now aware of places like puppy mills and unethical breeders and are no longer supporting these practices as frequently.

Proper breeding, socialization and testing actually helps bring healthy well socialized dogs into our families and does not generally contribute to the amount of abandon dogs.

It is in our contract that the dog is to be returned if you can no longer care for it. We then take on the responsibility if finding a suitable home for the dog.

If we produce a puppy they are our responsibility for their lifetime.

What products are best for my dog? What food is best?

We have an amazon list of products that we have used and find to be of good quality. I include this list with my puppy information packages! Reach out anytime and I can send you the list.

As for food, that has been a more challenging obstacle. We have tried quite a few brands so far always opting for what seems to be high quality.

However we came across an issue with a puppy food causing urinary issues in 2 puppies. We changed that immediately  and have done some research and asked other breeders for recommendations.

Right now we are feeding Inukshuk Professional Dog Food. The formula we chose is Marine 26/16. It is a family owned Canadian company that believes in Science Based Nutrition.

On top of that we give them dried liver treats, occasional eggs, sardines as well as some fresh fruits and veggies.

We go though a lot of toys and high quality food to keep our dogs healthy and happy!

Can you help me with puppy training? My puppy is biting or having accidents!

Yes, we do offer advice on puppy training. However we recommend all puppies take a good round of Puppy classes. Bulldogge pups can be incredibly smart and stubborn. They also have higher energy for the first year of life.

We offer a puppy training guide in the puppy care package that has a lot of useful strategies and exercises. Crate training, is in our opinion essential for bulldogges.  By crate training you can reduce a lot of problems before they become bad habits. Crates become their den and they actually love them.

Puppy training is a long process and can be quite difficult. please take this into consideration when considering adding a puppy to the family.

We are always here to answer questions to the best of our abilities!

I live outside of Ontario, can I still get one of your pups?

Yes Absoutley!

However you will be responsible for the cost of flying/hotel/car rental. A puppy needs to be accompanied and there are only a few airlines that accept pups in the cabin.

Typically you would fly here to pick up the puppy, I reside approximately 2:00 hours from Pearson International and 1:45 from Waterloo Airport.

I may be available to deliver a puppy and have had the experience of booking and traveling. This can be discussed and arranged at the time.

Also if for any reason the puppy needed to be returned, you would be responsible for all costs associated with that as well.

I'm happy to help you figure out the difficulties of traveling with a puppy!

Can I have a puppy with breeding rights?

I have had some incredible breeders sell to me with breeding rights, without them I would not be where I am today... With a variety of incredible dogs from all different lines!

I believe it's important for breeders to stick together for the betterment of the breed, breeding practices and to make sure that the genetics of the Olde English bulldogge lines in this country  stay as varied as possible.

That being said, I will not sell with breeding rights to just anyone. I would need to speak at length with you about your program and practices to ensure that you will give the dog the best life possible.

There will be an additional charge for breeding rights based off the sire and dam.  I only plan on doing this a few times to make sure the genetics stay varied.

Only reputable breeders,  or those with the intentions of doing things the right way will be considered.

Do you have any older dogs available?

In the future we will have older dogs available. Once a dog retires from breeding we will be  placing them with loving, carefully chosen families.

As much as this will hurt our hearts, it will be best for our dogs!

Our girls will have between 2-4 litters and then will retire and be placed.

We are also considering a guardian home program. A guardian home would raise one of our puppies, then in the future we would have a few litters with her.

The mama would come back here briefly to mate during her heat, and then for a longer stay (2 months) to whelp the puppies. This would happen between 2-4 times. Once she retires, she would be fully your dog!

If you live within 90 minutes of Markdale and would be interested, please reach out to start the conversation and see if your home would be a good fit!
